Visit to New York City

10/21/2022

Picture
It's been a magical week in New York City! Seen here at the Lotos Club, New York's treasured club for writers and artists. Special thanks to Sheryl Sims Foster and Dean Foster for this unique opportunity. Everyone needs to check out Dean Foster's podcast, "Oops, Your Culture's Showing!" for his exceptional insights into the role of culture on human interactions.
Being in this historic space inspired me to reread Lord Alfred Tennyson's brilliant poem, "The Lotos-eaters," based on the Homer's Odyssey, that part where some of Odysseus' crew are fed the addictive lotos fruit, a mythical delicacy that saps all of their drive and ambition, causing them to (temporarily) abandon their voyage.
I was also honored to attend both the private and the public opening of the Dusti Bongé exhibit at Hollis Taggart's splendid art gallery in Chelsea.  Dusti Bongé was an immensely talented Abstract Expressionist painter from the South, represented by Betty Parsons during the zenith of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Hollis Taggart worked together with the Dusti Bongé Art Foundation, and Dusti's grandson, photographer Paul Bongé , to make sure her works are once again available for viewing and acquisition in New York City.

Thank you to Sappho's Torque for including me as one of their featured poets for National Poetry Month. I am honored that they chose "A Particle Theory of Inheritance" as an example of my work. This is an incredibly special poem to me, a celebration of physics, written for Dr. Forrest G. Hall on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. Picture
Warmest thanks to the editors, A. Molotkov and John Sibley Williams, at The Inflectionist Review for publishing two of my new poems, "Haunting" and "Spring Equinox: Pandemic." I have long been hoping to have my work included in this esteemed journal of exquisitely curated poetry and artwork. (Cover art for The Inflectionist Review, Issue #13, shown here, by Megan Merchant.) Be sure and check out this amazing issue! The Inflectionist Review has a very unique aesthetic, an editorial approach "that fosters a dialogue...between ambiguity and concept." Bring on the magic! Highly recommend!

11/7/2021

Picture
I am over-the-moon thrilled to have my poem, "White Swan and Cherries," featured in the Fall Issue of Pensive: A Global Journal of Spirituality in the Arts. As all of my colleagues working in mental health and health care are well aware, this has been eighteen months of spirit-crushing proportions, a time when fairy-tale magic is the only thing that can possibly keep you going.

"CRIMSON DANCE" - EQUINOX

9/21/2021

Picture
Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Red Shoes," my poem, "Crimson Dance," debuted today in the premiere issue of EQUINOX literary magazine. Immense thanks to their editors for including my poem. This is a stunningly beautiful journal with meticulous attention to detail. Look how their art department wrapped the epigraph I used from the original fairytale around the body of the poem! Lovely! Issue # 1 can be read here: simplebooklet.com/equinox
Their next issue will be published on the next seasonal equinox in March of 2022. I highly encourage poet's to submit: www.hotpoet.org/equinox-submissions
